Welcome BCRC’s New Development Associate- Nik Ireland

Welcome to our new member of our development team Nik. We are so happy to have Nik take charge and help with our gracious donors.

What is your title and when did you start working at the BCRC?

I was hired in October 2016 as the Development Associate.

What do you do for the BCRC?

Donor relations and the database are my main task with additional focus on our signature event Art Bra Austin which will take place June 3, 2017 at the Convention Center. I look at my position as the Concierge of BCRC in relation to donors. I help donors with all needs they might have when it comes to their donation and support the Development team in daily tasks.

What inspired you to work for the BCRC?

Knowing what a wonderful organization BCRC is was my first inspiration. My life was touched by breast cancer as my Grandmother died from it.  I was with my Nana when the doctor told her that she had breast cancer.  I was there through all the different stages of treatment and saw how her health declined.   She went through so much and I will never forget her.  Watching her struggle with decisions because information was not easily nor willingly provided because there were no resource centers like BCRC to help navigate through the diagnosis. Knowing that BCRC provides these services and how many clients it helps is all the inspiration I need.

What did you do prior to your work at the BCRC?

I have worked for various non-profits for 20 years. I held positions as the Development Director of Boys & Girls Clubs in El Paso to Annual Giving Manager at the Long Center in Austin.

What do you do in your spare time?

I have been an art enthusiast since I was little.  To this day, I love going to gallery openings and shows. I adore the feeling of looking at a piece of art and being fully engulfed in the beauty of the work as the piece transports me. Some of my favorite works are from Cassatt, Goya, Kooning to Bob Schneider.  I truly embrace it.  I even collect books on their work.

Growing up in West Texas, desert was all around us and so was BLM Land.  I got my first dirt bike motorcycle when I was 12,  a blue and white Yamaha 125 4 stroke. I was so excited and could not wait to learn to ride.  That is all it took! I rode for years but now it is not so easy to ride off road here in Central Texas. I miss that freedom! Growing up in the desert, I rode for days with my friends. Naturally that led me to the love of watching Baja Motorcycle Racing and Moto GP.  A good friend from high school Eric B. races Baja and that got me hooked. I’ve been following the Moto GP for years and I’m a huge Valentino Rossi fan.  The excitement of the crowd and speed definitely plays a role in my love for the sport and I love to see it live.

When I’m not enjoying art or racing, you can find me listening to live music in Austin as we have some of the best singer and song writers.  I look forward  to meeting everyone soon!
