The artist behind this bold art bra is none other than Misty Lindholm, a 2-year survivor and one of the fabulous Art Bra Models for 2014! Misty is also the mother of two amazing young girls, wife to an “indescribably wonderful husband and best friend,” household CEO, business owner, artist and breast cancer survivor. Originally from the Midwest, she has called Texas her home for the past 20 years. After being diagnosed in 2012, Misty found losing her hair during chemo to be a liberating experience that marked a fresh start to life. She reached out to BCRC soon after her diagnosis and they have been in her life ever since.
“Under Reconstruction & Well Built”
Misty describes her artistic style as whimsical and carefree, yet clever and calculated – “perfectly imperfect.” Family is her passion, creativity and problem solving are her gifts. She first saw the “Under Construction” idea online and immediately knew she wanted to make her own version for Art Bra Austin 2014. Having undergone breast reconstruction for a while, Misty instantly related. The art bra’s construction hats are hand-sculpted using crafting foam, dry modeling clay, plaster and wood. Once painted, Misty began to labor over the art bra’s intricate design pieces, symbolically feeling like this time she was the surgeon. Forging ahead and finishing Under Reconstruction & Well Built is very much representative of Misty’s approach to breast cancer – headstrong and determined to never give up!
