We love it when organizations get behind Art Bra Austin! In this case, it’s FAB — or, FABulous Working Ladies. FAB was established in Dallas in 2006, and brought to Austin in 2007, with only one goal in mind — to bring women together to serve in business, life and community. FAB’s passion is to support, uplift and inspire women nationwide. Their Austin chapter asked one of their members, Pippa Powling, to create an Art Bra on their behalf. Pippa has been sewing since she was very young, and says that she can look at a pile of materials and envision what can be made from them — a valuable skill when creating for Art Bra Austin!
Pippa was asked by her FAB colleagues to create a bra based upon a “rock and roll” theme, and Pippa says she immediately heard Tina Turner singing “Proud Mary” in her head. Then, as she began to create to create the bra, she also heard “Unchain My Heart” in her head, leading to a fusion of leopard print, beaded fringe and chains for this wild creation.
Pippa says that the chains also represent the “unchaining from the disease” of breast cancer, and that the bra will be accompanied by a variety of accessories to complete the costume. She hopes the Art Bra Model who will wear this beautiful piece feels as proud and vivacious as Tina Turner herself!
