Mosaic artists and breast cancer survivors, Dianne Sonnenberg and Monica Meadows, collaborate each year for Art Bra Austin in celebration of life, friendship, community and glitzy glamour. We are honored to have this dynamic duo participate once again as Art Bra artists. As always, their art piece is simply stunning.
Dianne is an internationally-renowned mosaic artist and member of the Society of American Mosaic Artists. She creates large-scale art, decorative mosaics, garden art, and indoor and outdoor installations. Based in Austin, Diane has worked with clients in locations across the US and her mosaics are exhibited internationally. Her most recent work includes a life-size Texas Longhorn crystal mosaic sculpture, which sold for a record-breaking $250,000 at the MackJackMcConaughey Longhorn Stampede fundraiser.
Monica is the Director of the Coordinated Program in Dietetics at the University of Texas at Austin. She found her artistic voice after being introduced to mosaics through her mentor, Dianne. She looks forward to their annual Art Bra collaborations, and is proud to present their most impressive piece yet, “Strut Your Stuff.”
“Strut Your Stuff”
This distinctively vibrant Art Bra piece was made with 24k gold tile, sparkling dichroic glass, and custom-made pieces of fused glass. Each piece of glass and tile was hand-cut and then individually adhered to the bra. The glass “eye” pieces represent the eye found on the tail feathers of peacocks, and symbolize the wisdom of heaven and the “eyes” of the stars.
The artists were inspired to create an art piece that imbued their art bra model with the characteristic pride of the peacock, and emboldened her to “strut her stuff” down the Art Bra Austin runway. In many ancient traditions, the peacock was thought to have the power of resurrection, symbolizing renewal and immortality – a fitting symbol for a woman adjusting to and learning to embrace the “new normal” of her life after breast cancer.
Dianne Sonnenberg also teaches mosaic classes at her open studio on Friday afternoons from 1:00-5:00pm at Artisan Stained Glass. For more information, please visit contact Dianne at firstname.lastname@example.org.
