Crystal found out about BCRC through her involvement with Scare for a Cure, a nonprofit organization that creates a multimedia haunted house each October to benefit The BCRC. Crystal designs many of the elaborate costumes for Scare for a Cure’s events and this is her second time returning as an artist for Art Bra Austin. She devotes her time and talent because she knows that through The BCRC, no one will face breast cancer alone.
Just because you have scars doesn’t mean you can’t be sexy! Crystal was inspired by the story of Frankenstein to create this fabulously-freaky art bra. Frankenstein comes into this world under horrible circumstances, never did anything to deserve his treatment but still has a sunny disposition on life. He teaches himself to read, learns french and wants to love. So Crystal thought, what if the monster was a cool rockabilly guy? Who would he fall in love with? A super sexy rockabilly girl?! In her own words, she adds “I say rock those scars, find someone who loves you for you and be proud of what you have done!”
“Stormy Sea” is representative of the struggles and triumphs of a cancer survivor – how things can go from calm to chaotic, but with perseverance and strength of will, one can make it back to healthy and calm. As the saying goes ‘smooth seas never made a skilled sailor,’ Crystal believes that is how life is too. She adds that although things may seem bleak in the midst of a storm, the sun always comes out and when it does, you become able to truly appreciate the beauty of the world.
