30 Days of Artists: Cancer Survivor Goes to Bat for a League of Their Own

Art Bra artist Misty Lindholm at a baseball game with her husbandArt Bra Austin can’t get enough of Misty Lindholm, a 3-year survivor as well as veteran model and bra artist. And this year she’s outdone herself with a bra inspired by The historical All American Girls’ Professional Baseball League (inspiration for the movie “A League of Their Own”).

“These women were brave and empowered and showed their grit, determination, will, and strength. They turned the history being made at that time into about more than just the war,” Misty says, “It was about doing what needs to be done, owning the experience, and bringing your brave A-game attitude, no matter what. I found the parallels between these ladies and my pink sisters quite compelling.”

Misty used glitter sheets, transfer paper (with ink print authentic autographs and images), terrycloth, thick felt, buttons, ribbon, thread, and a base bra that most resembled the shape of baseballs. She also got authentic autographs from some of the original members of the League, and used the Internet, Photoshop, Word to sharpen the autograph images, center label and patches, and then prepare them for print.

Misty says she created this bra to honor “all mothers, daughters, wives, sisters, survivors, angels – women everywhere who have shown the same kind of love of life and self as the historical AAGPBL players represented in this piece.”

All art bras will be auctioned off at BCRC’s signature charity event on June 6, 2015 at the Austin Music Hall. All funds raised goes to support local women affected by breast cancer. To learn more about Art Bra Austin, visit www.artbraaustin.org
