Bilinda (Joy) Edla is an aspiring artist and student at The University of Texas at Austin. This is Joy’s first year as an artist for Art Bra Austin. Originally from India, Joy came to America when she was just four-years old, and moved to a small town in Texas called Mineral Wells. She currently studies child development and fashion design at UT’s College of Natural Sciences. Joy aspires to have a career in fashion design and also dreams of becoming a pediatrician so she can help kids and open a free clinic in India.
“Show Your True Colors”
“Show Your True Colors” is 100% hand-painted and hand-sewn. The artist, Joy, decided to use peacock feathers because they resemble renewal and rebirth, representing the survivorship of women who have been faced with breast cancer. The henna tattoo design resembles the permanence of the cancer scare, which she believes makes these women unique and beautiful. The color of gold was also used throughout the art bra’s design to make its wearer feel confident in winning the battle against breast cancer. Joy hopes that her intricately designed art bra inspires the Art Bra models to show their true colors and feel beautiful doing it.
