Coping with Breast Cancer: Learning to Cope While Building a Community

We are excited to kick off 2016 with our Coping with Breast Cancer Program (Recently Diagnosed) in both our Austin and Round Rock office.   We offered five six-week programs last year and we received positive feedback.

“The Recently Diagnosed Program provided me with solid information to help manage my care and navigate the emotional trials.  The different topics we discussed each week were very good. I enjoyed the poems, relaxation exercises, and the humor therapy. It was lovely to get all of the information and books for further reading.”  BCRC client

“I was looking to connect with other people who were going through the breast cancer treatment process around the same time I was and it was interesting to hear everyone’s different stories. I could see people relax and connect to each other as the group progressed through the program. It’s always good to know we are not alone.”  BCRC client

“Being able to express my concerns, anger and anxiety among other recently diagnosed women in a supportive environment was very helpful to lessen the isolation I have felt.”   BCRC Client

RDSC 2015Our Coping with Breast Cancer Six Week Program is designed to help women cope with their cancer diagnosis and treatment. It provides coping skills and a sense of community and connection. This program aims to decrease the physical and mental stress that can arise during the course of treatment, while also providing a safe place to recognize and express fears and concerns. Understanding the role of the caregiver is also emphasized. Our program is for women diagnosed (up to one year) and in any treatment phase of breast cancer.

This is a closed group and we request that a commitment be made to attend most meetings during this time.  The groups are facilitated by our Patient Navigators.  We hope you become part of this supportive community.

“I love how so many of those that attended our programs still continue to support one another both face-to-face and by emails.  Many of them have become close friends.  Building their support team is a way to cope during treatment and beyond.”  BCRC facilitator
